European Solidarity Corps

What is the European Solidarity Corps?

The European Solidarity Corps is the EU's new programme for promoting solidarity as a value, mainly through volunteering. It aims to enhance the engagement of young people and organisations in accessible and high-quality solidarity activities, thereby strengthening cohesion, solidarity, democracy and citizenship in Europe, while also responding to societal challenges and strengthening communities, with a particular focus on promoting social inclusion. It shall also contribute to those aspects of European cooperation that are relevant to young people.

With a budget of €375.6 million for 2018-2020, it offers opportunities for young people to carry out volunteering activities, traineeships and jobs and run their own solidarity projects.

How does the European Solidarity Corps work and who can participate?

Interested 17-30 years olds can register on the European Solidarity Corps portal. Once registered and at least 18 years old, they can be invited to participate in projects by organisations that have access to the database of participants. These organisations can also advertise opportunities on the European Solidarity Corps portal, so that young people can apply directly for the advertised position.

How is the European Solidarity Corps managed?

The programme implements the following operational Actions:

  • Volunteering
  • Traineeships and Jobs

Additionally, the European Solidarity Corps supports a series of Quality and Support measures and non-formal and informal learning.

Besides these actions, EACEA will also be responsible for providing the European Solidarity Corps's participants with the following horizontal services:
