Large scale European Voluntary Service (EVS) events support European and worldwide volunteering projects in the field of youth, culture and sport. These projects can include, for example, World Youth Summits, European Capitals of Culture, European Youth Capitals and European sport championships.

Large scale EVS events consist of the following stages:

Preparation (including practical arrangements, selection of participants, linguistic/intercultural/task-related preparation of participants before departure)
Implementation of the EVS activities and complementary activities
Follow-up (including the evaluation of the EVS activities, the formal recognition - where applicable - of the learning outcomes of participants during the activities, as well as the dissemination and use of the project's outcomes)

What does it support

European Voluntary Service:

Helping young people aged 17-30 to carry out unpaid and full-time voluntary service in another country.
Giving young volunteers the opportunity to contribute to the run-up of activities and initiatives organised in the framework of a European/international event.

Please note that the following activities are not eligible:

Occasional, under structured, part-time volunteering
A work placement in an enterprise
A paid job
A recreation or tourist activity
A language course
Exploitation of a cheap workforce
A period of study or vocational training abroad

Complementary activities:

Conferences, seminars, meetings and workshops, etc. aimed at promoting the value of volunteering (and European Voluntary Service).

Who can benefit from it

Young people aged between 17 to 30 from a Programme country (except the country where the project is taking place) or from a Partner country neighbouring the EU.

The large scale EVS event project must take place in the Programme Country where the European/international event in the field of youth, culture or sport is held.

Participating organisations are responsible for:

arranging subsistence, lodging and the local transports of volunteers
envisaging tasks and activities for volunteers that respect the qualitative principles of the EVS, as described in the EVS Charter
providing volunteers with task-related, linguistic, personal and administrative support throughout the duration of the EVS activity/event.

A large scale EVS event must involve at least 30 volunteers. The participation in an EVS activity must be free of charge for volunteers, with the exception of a possible contribution for travel costs (if the Erasmus+ grant does not fully cover these costs) and expenses not linked to the implementation of the activity.

A volunteer can only take part in one large-scale EVS event project during the lifetime of the Erasmus+ Programme.

This list includes the participants eligible for EU funding. Please note however that participants cannot submit an application. For the list of organisations that can apply, please refer to the tab 'who can apply'.

What support is available

The maximum eligible grant for a large scale EVS event project is €200,000.

The activity duration (within the project duration) is limited from 14 days to 59 days, excluding travel time.

Who can apply

Any public or private organisation in a Programme country who is directly involved in the organisation of the European/ international event in the field of youth, culture or sport or has a written agreement with the event organisers.

Please note individuals cannot apply directly for a grant.

How are applications selected

All project proposals are assessed on the basis of the eligibility, exclusion, selection and award criteria described in the E+ Programme Guide

Quality assessments are carried out with the support of external evaluators. For more information on the quality review, please consult the E+ Programme Guide.

What happens if your application is selected

All applicants will receive a written notification of the outcome of the selection procedure as well as feedback on the evaluation of their application.

If need be, successful applicants may be invited to make adjustments to their proposals, correct clerical mistakes and provide supporting documents or clarifications.

A grant agreement/decision detailing all conditions with regard to the awarded grant will then be signed. Following this the applicants will obtain the status of "beneficiaries".
