Objectives
The objectives of Comenius are to enhance the quality and reinforce the
European dimension of school education, in particular by encouraging
transnational cooperation between schools and contributing to improved
professional development of staff directly involved in the school
education sector, and to promote the learning of languages and
intercultural awareness.
Who's eligible?
The Comenius action focuses on the first phase of education (covering
nursery, primary and secondary schooling including technical and
vocational education). It extends to all in this education community
teachers, education staff and pupils whilst endeavouring to also
involve organisations outside school such as parents associations,
NGOs, local authorities, the business sector and the social partners.
Comenius Activities
Comenius is divided into three
actions:
Comenius 1: school partnerships
Comenius 2: training of teachers and other school education staff
Comenius 3: development of the networks
Comenius 1: school partnerships
The are There are three types of
partnership:
School projects - enable pupils and teachers from at least three
establishments from three participating countries to work together within
the regular class activities on one or more topics of mutual interest. The
financial support is for a maximum of 3 years.
Language projects involve groups of at least 10 young people ages 14
or older from partner schools in two participating countries. The main
element of the project is the learning of languages by means of work on a
topic of mutual interest together with young people from another country.
The duration of the project is normally one school year, however it could
be extended to two consecutive school years.
School development projects give school managers and teachers from at
least three establishments from three participating countries the
opportunity to exchange experience and information on teaching methods,
organisation and management of themes of common interest. The financial
support is for a maximum of 3 years.
Comenius
2: training of teachers and other school education staff
Two typTwo types of activities can receive
support:
Multilateral cooperation projects between different types of
institutions, particularly establishments providing initial or in-service
teacher training, from at least three participating countries including at
least one EU Member State. The aim is to prepare programmes, courses,
strategies and teaching material for training of education staff and for
use in the classroom. The support is granted for a maximum of three years.
Individual training grants for individuals who are working as teachers or
in other capacities in the field of school education (or who are training
to qualify for such positions in the future) to carry out various kinds of mobility activities in
other participating countries linked to their initial and in-service
training.
Comenius
3: development of the networks
Comenius 3 encourages the networking of Comenius projects on subjects
of common interest with the aim of promoting European cooperation and
innovation in school education in various thematic areas. The financial
support is for a maximum of 3 years. To be eligible for support, the
partnership proposing to develop a network must include at least one
organisation from each of six different countries participating in
SOCRATES.
How to apply?
Applications under Comenius 1 and Comenius 2 (Individual training grants) must be
submitted to the National Agency in the
applicants country.
Applications under Comenius 3 and Comenius 2 (multilateral cooperation projects) must be made
to the Executive Agency
